MRC Vacancies

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) was founded in 1969 and is mandated to advance medical research in South Africa. The SAMRC funds biomedical, health care, psychiatric and social science research projects, as well as training and education initiatives. Additionally, it administers the South African National Research Foundation (SANRF) and the South African Institute for Medical Research (SAIMR). This council is providing its services for a variety of illnesses such as tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, heart disease, chronic illnesses, gender and health, alcohol consumption, as well as drug abuse. SAMRC is also a member of the government-funded organization known as the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC). As an important part of its strategy, the SAMRC constantly strives for improvements in the health system of South Africa – using the same metrics as those applied by the Department of Health, the SAMRC continuously analyzes and determines what are the major causes of death in the country. Its main vision is to make the country a healthier place to live by investing in research, developing new technologies, and transforming the economy. Professor Glenda Gray is the President & CEO of this organization. Its headquarter is situated in Parow, Cape Town.
