Job Description:

Reporting to the Engineering Foreman, the role will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, fault finding and repair of Medium Voltage & Low Voltage electrical equipment within the electrical discipline according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for good housekeeping in working area.
  • Participate in planning shutdowns (Planned maintenance), resources, tools and spares relevant to the shutdown activities.
  • Takes cognisance of and adhere to Company policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Manage and report on non compliance issues.
  • Provide Input to risk assessments, safe work procedures and Planned Task Observations, monitor, train and implement all codes of practice, policies, procedures, risk assessments and standards and ensure all are in place for the effective management of safe working conditions in terms of related
  • Assist Foreman in executing his/his duties as and when required.
  • De-energies and apply the lock-out procedure as per company policy.
  • Responsible for trade related administration.
  • Follow instructions as per job card and report any defects.
  • Responsible for winder machinery, maintenance signal devices and safety devices as applicable.
  • Responsible for electrical installations.
  • Model behavior that is consistent with the Company Vision and Values. Manage and report on non compliance issues.
  • Responsible for electrical reticulation of ventilation equipment e.g. main / booster fans as applicable.
  • Responsible for maintenance of transformers.
  • Perform risk assessments (Mini) and participates in risk assessments (Activity based).
  • Responsible for overhead crane maintenance.
  • Perform standby duties and attend to breakdowns.
  • Provide input in preparing maintenance and inspection schedules.
  • Ensure that all Engineering reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements.
  • Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure.
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Regulations and Manufacturing and Company Standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Foreman.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for allocated apprentices.
  • Responsible for compressor maintenance as applicable.
  • Responsible for emergency generators power supplies as applicable.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and skills in area of responsibility; advising on solutions to enhance or ensure the effectiveness of the department/section.
  • Conduct planned task observations.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the Engineering Function and operation.
  • Responsible for MV (medium voltage) protection, switching and maintenance of MV related equipment.
  • Responsible for maintenance of elevators and safety devices as applicable.
  • Responsible for the management of consumable stock levels (amongst others, spares and hydro carbons).

Job Requirements:

  • Identify the tools, spares and equipment required for the work activities.
  • Do Planned Maintenance on equipment according to OEM specifications and safe working procedures.
  • Know and adhere to the safe work procedures.
  • Have knowledge and skill in assembling components in a logical order and according to specifications.
  • Have knowledge and skill in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, manuals and drawings.
  • Respond and attend to breakdowns timeously and effectively to ensure minimum downtime and production losses.
  • Have knowledge to identify and prioritized the critical tasks to be executed during the planned shutdown.
  • N2 Certificate
  • Have knowledge and skill in diagnosing root causes of faults on machines and equipment.
  • Grade 10
  • Qualified Electrician Trade Certificate through a recognized institution and apprenticeship**
  • Working at heights
  • Have knowledge and skill to complete job cards and record actions/findings.
  • 3 years post Apprenticeship/Qualification experience (can be concurrent with the PDL trade experience)
  • Valid Drivers’ License
  • Pass Vienna Level 2 Assessment.
  • Detect faults and identify trends and report to ensure action to minimize losses or downtime.
