Job Description: 

The purpose of the job is providing administration support and co-ordination of all processes associated with research ethics. The role provides support to the members of the University’s Research Ethics Committees, staff and students. The incumbent must ensure timely administration of applications and approvals throughout their lifecycle, and that the University’s Research Ethics and Integrity Committees operate effectively and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • To provide expert input into drafting, revision and implementation of research ethics policies and guidelines, considering national and international guidelines and relevant legislation concerning research ethics
  • To design and manage ethics application and review processes in consultation with the Manager: Research Ethics and the Research Ethics Committees
  • To perform expert administrative review of all submissions to the human and animal research ethics committees and advise applicants on additional information and/or documents required for completeness
  • To conduct expert audit of applications pre-approved as low risk by Faculty Research Ethics Committees
  • To provide research ethics administrative support to the university community
  • To advice the research community about relevant regulatory changes, policies and guidelines for research

Job Requirements:

  • Matric and A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification, Honours qualification would be considered an advantage)
  • Demonstrable ability to work with minimal supervision, and independently prioritise a very high-volume workload
  • Ability to review research proposals and supporting documents for compliance and ensuring quality control of applications
  • Ability to identify and understand ethical risks associated with a wide range of research methodologies
  • Two years relevant experience where such experience includes:
  • The applicant should be computer literate, have good IT skills and willing to learn new systems. Knowledge of Infonetica Research Ethics software will be an added advantage
