Job Description:

Systems appropriate level of care, referral pathways, seamless and integrative service delivery system

Job Responsibilities:

  • Will cover clinical skills, performance, training, research and supervision & support)
  • Clinical Quality: audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical guidelines, protocols, quarterly
    Paediatric Units (EPMDS for junior staff)
  • Participate in the departmental activities for the development and training of undergraduate, post graduate and vocational students, including joining the University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN) as a member of the Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Paediatrics & Child Health
  • To perform call duties in line with the Paediatric Metropolitan Departmental needs
  • Training programme for under – and post graduates, lectures, bed side teaching, etc.
    Clinical and administrative responsibility to Harry Gwala Regional Hospital Neonatal and
  • Play a leadership role in conducting ward rounds, problem ward rounds, ground ward rounds,
  • Involved in Neonatal and Paediatric resuscitation courses and all initiatives in the care of newborns and Paediatrics
  • Intern, Community Service Doctor’s , Medical Officer and Registrar Supervision and evaluation
    multidisciplinary meetings and mortality meeting for teaching purposes.
  • Provision of specialist neonatal, paediatric services
  • Participate in the departmental Outreach program to the catchment area
  • Health Information and Research: ME disease profile, setting up of database for clinical conditions, sundries and consumables, conduct relevant research
  • Post Graduate Paediatric development and strengthening

Job Requirements:

  • FC Paeds (SA) OR equivalent
  • General Management Skills: Human Resources, Finance, Operations, Strategy, Marketing
  • Outstanding clinical skills in field of Neonatology preferably obtained in public service
  • Develop and review clinical protocols and guidelines for Paediatrics and Neonatology
  • Medical ethics, epidemiology, research and statistics
  • Leadership, people management, problem solving, decision making and communications skills
  • MBCHB OR equivalent qualification Plus
  • Ability and practical experience to provide training for under and post graduates
  • Registration certificate with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical
  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Specialist in Paediatrics OR proof of completion of their MMED
  • Current practice with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist (2022-2023)
  • Knowledge of relevant protocols, policies, regulations, public service legislation and guidelines.
  • Mentoring, coaching, facilitation, teaching and training skills
